The Ecodesign of Energy-related Products Directive (ErP) and The Energy Labelling Directive came into force for heat pumps on 26 Septermber 2015. Any non-compliant heat pumps commissioned after 25 March 2016 will not be eligible for MCS certification or the RHI.
Installers can check whether a heat pump is ErP compliant on the MCS website or on the Ofgem Product Eligibility List.
