RECC welcomes Watchdog investigation

Posted: 14 November, 2014. Written by Mark

BBC's Watchdog programme last night exposed the activities of British Solar, a cold-calling company selling solar PV and air source heat pumps to older, often vulnerable consumers.

The behaviours shown on BBC’s Watchdog yesterday are specifically outlawed by the Renewable Energy Consumer Code and by the consumer protection legislation that underpins it. Those responsible clearly have a case to answer and may be guilty of committing criminal offences. British Solar is not a member of RECC.

Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) installer standards require that only MCS-certified companies can sign contracts with consumers. We are aware British Solar may have been working with some MCS companies, and any certified installers found to be in breach of the RECC Code and MCS Standards will be fully investigated.

RECC is always willing to assist in any way possible the enforcement agencies that are working to resolve these very serious matters.
